One of my favorite basic skills to teach is colors. Distinguishing colors helps with following directions, matching, and so much more. It is a cornerstone to teaching other basic skills.
I use my Adapted Color Books to teach the basic colors. These books are simple and engaging. Each page has a matching component to keep students on task and keep those little hands busy.
In my classroom, I hang my color books in my book nook station. This provides for easy access and gives them access to the word labels each time they enter this area.
Another way to teach colors is through sorting.
This sorting task is simple and easy to make. The containers were bought at the dollar store and the tongs are from the target dollar section. To make this task easier, take away the covers and just focus on sorting!
I also have various fine motor task boxes in my classroom. These tasks work on “put in” and color matching!
Hope you got some great ideas for teaching colors!
