Valentine’s Day Activities for Special Education

Valentine’s Day is my FAVORITE holiday! I love the cute heart-shaped decorations, fun candy and treats, and the fact that it is all about bringing joy to others. Not to mention, we all need a little bit of festive fun during the cold month of February! Luckily, there are a ton of easy ways to incorporate some Valentine’s Day fun into the school day. Read on to see some activities celebrate the day in your special education classroom!

Valentine’s Day Crafts

Getting crafty in the classroom is one of my favorite ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Making crafts is a perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! You can spruce up your classroom with the kids’ creations or send them home for families to enjoy. The February Visual Crafts set comes with 4 cute and easy-to-implement projects. Using the visual directions, students are able to complete these projects with independence.

Book Companions

Seasonal book companions are a great addition to reading lessons!

It is important to maintain routines for our students even when it is a special day. So, I always try to stick to my regular schedule as much as possible, while still incorporating holiday-themed activities. One way to do this is by using themed book companions during our reading block! Book companions are an awesome way to use picture books in a meaningful way by adding story map, sequencing, and comprehension activities.

February Cooking

A Valentine Shake is a fun cooking project!

Cooking projects are one of the most fun activities to do in the classroom! The February Visual Recipes set includes recipes for a Valentine Shake, Heart Mix, Super Sunday Dip, and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. (You can preview the Super Sunday Dip with this free resource!) Each one comes with the visual recipe, a tool and ingredients list, sequencing worksheet, tool and ingredient worksheet, and student survey. My students and I look forward to our “cooking Fridays” every week!

More February Fun

Valentine visual cards are printed on pink paper. The paper reads "Happy Valentine's Day! I am practicing passing out Valentine's Day Cards!"
Students can use these cards to practice writing and delivering Valentines!

There are even more fabulous February resources in the February Activity bundle! There are vocabulary activities, fine motor cut and paste puzzles, basic skills worksheets, Valentine’s Day visual resources, and more!

Valentine's Day taste test checklist and comprehension sheet
A taste-test activity is a fun way to prepare students for Valentine parties!

As you can see, it is simple and fun to spread the love at school in February! Have any fun traditions in your classroom? Share them below, and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
