At Home Learning Behavior Blog Schedules Visuals

Home Choice Boards for School Closures

Our students THRIVE on visuals. Whether they are following a visual schedule (free one here) with picture supports or a written schedule… when there are cancellations and they need to spend a day at home, or spend an extended period doing at home learning like during the coronavirus outbreak, having visual supports is key.

Keep scrolling for your FREE choice boards.

Choice boards are a great way to use visuals, be structured, and give choices. The best part? All of these things greatly reduce behaviors!

There are 3 choice boards in this free download. One for play, one for academics, and one for exercise or motor activities. Have your students pick 2-5 on a board per day or per activity time… whatever amount works- just set limits and be consistent!

Tips for activities on the boards:

+ Use lots of language

+ think about incorporating labeling, writing, reading, and math into each activtity

+ EXAMPLE: playdough: let’s make the letter a!, can you sort the colors, which pile is bigger?

Remember: Parents are not all capable to open a full time school. Be gracious. Remember how different all families are. Teachers are figuring out how to provide materials for at home learning too. Choice boards are a great starting point that offer structure!

You can download the FREE Home Choice Boards here.
