IEP Goals For Lifeskills

Simply Special Ed’s Year Long Lifeskills Bundle Data Sheet

In education, creating meaningful IEP goals for students in lifeskills classrooms help prepare them for life beyond school. Furthermore, the instructional focus in lifeskills classes go beyond traditional academics to empower students with essential skills for independent and fulfilling lives. Even in elementary school, lifeskills IEP goals help to teach future job skills and recreation skills such as self-sufficiency, advocacy, and executive functioning skills.

IEP Goal 1: Daily Routines

Skill: Hand washing

Goal: In one years time, following a task analysis, “student ___ ” will independently demonstrate all steps of their hand washing routine following a task analysis with at least 80% accuracy across 5 observed trials.

IEP Goal 2: Communication

Skill: Social interactions

Goal: In one years time, “student ____” will initiate and maintain a conversation with a peer for a minimum of two minutes, using a greeting, asking an open-ended questions, and appropriately responding to the peer’s statements across 5 observed conversations.

IEP Goal 3: Community

Skill: Transportation

Goal: In one years time accompanied with staff, “student ____” will independently plan and execute at least two trips using public transportation to access a chosen destination (ex: library, grocery store), adhering to safety rules and demonstrating appropriate behavior in public spaces.

IEP Goal 4: Money/Budgeting

Skill: “Dollar Up” Method

Goal: In one years time, “student ____” will effectively use the “dollar up” method to determine the amount of money needed to purchase the item in 4 out of 5 trials with 80% accuracy.

IEP Goal 5: Job training

Skill: Washing table

Goal: In one years time and following a task analysis, “student ___” will independently wipe down the tables following classroom mealtimes with no more than 1 verbal prompt in 4 out of 5 trials.
