March Cooking In The Classroom

March Visual Recipes

Who doesn’t like to celebrate a holiday with cooking in the classroom? The Simply Special Ed Cooking bundle includes recipes for a Leprechaun Shake, English Muffin Pizza, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Shamrock Mix. There is something for everyone! Each recipe will include a visual recipe, tools and ingredient list, sequencing page, survey and ingredients worksheet. I found the worksheets and included material perfect for every level of student. Each recipe is easy to use and no oven or stove is necessary!

Tools & Ingredients

This is a picture of items needed for cooking in the classroom. The items are clear cup, tub of Sherbet ice cream, Ninja blender, Lemon-lime soda and a can of whip cream.

The tools and ingredients worksheet contain symbols that support each item. Your students can check them off as you review each item. This is great for students learning to label items and for learning cooking vocabulary. I also reviewed vocabulary such as cold, loud, sweet, sour, etc.

Recipe

The recipes in the bundle for cooking in the classroom are simple and symbol supported. You will see that the steps to all of the recipes are minimal. Additionally, you can even review the steps to the recipes way before actually getting out the supplies and making it!

Sequencing

This is a picture of the sequencing page for the Leprechaun shake.

I love this sequencing page! You will be able to differentiate it for many different types of learners. Some options are to leave the recipe steps numbered, so that students are cutting out and matching the numbers instead of the steps. Another idea is making two copies of this worksheet; one with the answers in place, so that students are matching the words and/or pictures.

Leprechaun Shake

My students loved every bit of this recipe! Cooking in the classroom is a fan favorite! My students were able to help scoop the ice cream, pour the soda, push the button for the blender and pour the shake. Some students might not like the item you are cooking but there is still plenty of learning happening.

Cooking Comprehension

Generally when cooking in the classroom, it can be viewed as fun and not as academic. I love that this bundle comes with worksheets that will get my students thinking. There can be so many ways that this worksheet can be used. You can refer to the ingredient list so that students will be able to answer the questions. Similarly, you can almost use this sheet as a form of the game Bingo! Again, there is potential for this page to be differentiated.

Survey

Additionally, the cooking set comes with a survey for students to reflect on. Again, it is symbol supported for those that need it. This cooking in the classroom bundle is an amazing resource for monthly cooking lessons that includes visuals and helps students learn an important life skill at the same time.
