Tips for Celebrating All Holidays

Our classrooms are becoming more and more diverse- and we want to always make sure we are celebrating EVERYONES traditions and teaching our students about how others celebrate too!

Use parent surveys in the beginning of the year to find out what holidays your students celebrate, unique traditions, and more information from parents!

Build you classroom library for the month of December to include all holidays and different traditions!

Here are my favorite for introducing topics with real people! (affiliate links)

and here are my favorite picture books! (affiliate links)

+ Talk about traditions with your class, if you didn’t use a survey in the beginning of the year- send home a note to the parents asking how they celebrate the holidays so you can best share and teach your class.

+ Find materials online- sometimes the search can be tough but it’s worth it! Scour through pinterest, unique learning system, and teachers pay teachers for interactive materials that will keep your students engaged and learning!

+ Use VIDEO- this can be a lifesaver in the month of December! I love to search for you tube videos with songs or stories that will keep my students engaged but interacting with this weeks topic!

+ Send home support for parents- they will thank you! I send home visuals for students that are celebrating Christmas when parents ask for them. It helps to create a schedule on the day of a family party to help with routines and behavior during the winter break.

+ FINALLY, have fun with it. I know you might not be an expert on these holidays either- and that’s ok! Learn with your kids, celebrate their traditions the way they do with their family, invite parents in to show you how to play dreidel or to make a traditional snack, you got this!

How do you make sure to incorporate all holidays in the month of December?
