Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I have 5 activities for Valentine’s Day that can be used in your special ed classroom to share! (and some free downloads!)
I always loved how February is the perfect time of year to spread love, acceptance, kindness, and thankfulness for our friends and families. These are great topics for the Special Ed Classroom.
Valentine’s Day Shake Recipe (free download)
Whenever there is a holiday, there is a fun recipe to go along with it. My visual recipes support students through hands on learning. Did you know how many skills are included a cooking lesson? Measuring, reading, comprehension, following directions, waiting, turn taking, the list goes on and on.

Picture Books about Acceptance and Love
I LOVE using picture books for read alouds in the special ed classroom. Even though picture books may be above the reading level of the students in your room, you can ALWAYS share books through read alouds. This month a great focus is on books about love, kindness, self-worth, and acceptance. Most of these books you can find being read aloud on youtube as well.
See my complete list in this blog post.
Valentine’s Day DIY Task Boxes
If you know SSE, you know I LOVE making my own task boxes. Making your own find motor boxes that also work on academic skills is a great way to save money and use the resources you already have in your classroom.

Valentine’s Day Digital Sorts (free Download)
I LOVE mimicking hands on activities using digital. My digital sorts mimic the real hands on file folders which makes it easy to transition for students on a hybrid or remote caseload. Teachers in the classroom are using digital sorts as well, because they reduce the need for materials crossing multiple student hands a day during covid.

Supporting Your Students during the Holiday
Our students often need support when schedule changes, class parties, and special activities will occur- both at home and at school. This Valentine’s Day visual set includes a social story and comprehension that I use for reading during the week of a holiday, and I also send the visual schedule home for home use. This is great to use if you are having a class party and need a special schedule as well.
