Life Skills Adapted Books

We LOVE our life skills block in the afternoon! It is so much fun working on our Monthly Life Skill (Check them out HERE) and using these adapted books to review concepts that are sometimes hard to remember!

We practice this skill until the students master it, then we fade out the pictures and just ask questions similar, and finally we practice every week and every month to make sure the skill is really  maintained… because what is more important than this!

Life Skills Adapted Books

The life skill adapted book set is FULL of books. You really get so much in this set! There is one book for each room in the house, and then a generalization book called “Which Room?”

kitchen adapted book cover

kitchen adapted book

The kitchen! This book directly teaches the skill of Which items go in the kitchen! With pictures and words to choose from, this book is easily adaptable for the student’s needs. You could also leave out the icons and landing page, and have the student write in the answer with dry erase!

bedroom adapted book

pillow life skills adapted book

The Bedroom! This book focuses on just a few of the things you may find in a bedroom. After mastered, I like to throw new questions at the students to see if they are generalizing to other things they may find in a bedroom to take their thinking to the next level.

bathroom adapted book

Life Skills Books- bathroom adapted book

The Bathroom! This book has lots of great options. You could also open this up to even more conversation about where you would keep the item, what you use it for, describing what their bathroom looks like at home and so much more to keep the language flowing!

dining room adapted book

Life Skills Books- dining adapted book

Dining Room! I love using the landing page to store icons. Did you know you could always make your own landing page for books that don’t have them by adding a full page laminated sheet to the back of the book and velcroing pieces there?

living room adapted book

living room adapted book couch book page

Living Room! This book also offers great opportunities to ask more questions, and try to get more detail out of your students language. Even if they are using a communication device, they could always tell you what color the couch at their house is!

laundry adapted book

Life Skills Books- laundry adapted book

Not every house has a laundry room, but it let’s your students talk about things that GO along with laundry!

Life Skills Books- which room?

WHICH ROOM?! This is my FAVORITE part of this set. My kids can always learn one book, but when it comes to generalizing they can get lost quick. This book keeps them on their toes!

*TIP for kids who memorize the order? Use binder rings instead of binding your books so you can easily change up the page order!

I hope you enjoyed a peek inside one of my favorite life skills resources! You can grab it here!
