3 Drawer Work Box System

3 drawer workbox system

Today I will be talking about the 3 Drawer workbox system I use in my classroom! This system is perfect for kids who don’t need IMMEDIATE rewards but need to see that a reward is in sight. It is great for kids who thrive off of a schedule. It is simple and all spelled out for them!

You may be familiar with a left to right work system. All of my students work this way. I like to keep things consistent in my classroom- even if they are at different stations they are all working left to right.

First, the student chooses a reward. Each student has a “reward board” where they can see what rewards are available to choose from. This reduces tantrums and anxiety if another student is currently using that reward when they finish all their boxes. Here is what my reward boards look like:

Reward choice boards

You can find my reward boards and other visuals in my Behavior Management Visuals for Special Ed Bundle HERE. There are a variety of boards with different amounts of choices, some kids may only need two choices.

Once the students chooses a reward you velcro it after the 1 2 3 on the desk. The student completes bin #1 and they put all materials in the all done bin (on the right on the floor). Once the bin is empty they can move #1 to the desk “finished” spot. They do the same for 2 and 3 until all bins are empty and all numbers are lined up on the desk.

Then the student can pick up the reward icon bring it to the teacher and make a request (verbal or device) for the reward. As the child is on reward, the teacher reloads the bins for round 2.

This workbox system has worked wonders for my students through increasing their independence during work time. It is always the goal to fade out supports and this is the best way to fade constant teacher prompting.

My students have their numbers on their desks and match them to the box when they start work on it. When they finish their last box, they can read books at their station or ask an adult for the choice board.

FYI: Your link for worksystem numbers is not working!
