Do you use adapted books in your classroom? They offer so many opportunities for learning. Not only do they provide repetition for maximized learning, they work on social skills, fine motor skills, matching, and so much more! Today I am going to give you a look into my favorite adapted books in my overflowing collection.
I use adapted books in my classroom for all major events, holidays, or themes! I use them for history topics, to ELA, to math. I pretty much have so many adapted books that could probably target any IEP goal!
Adapted books can come in all shapes and sizes and target all different types of goals:
– Check out Gabrielle over at Teaching Special Thinkers for her adapted counting and basic skills flipbooks for each season!
– Check out Jenna over at Speech Room News for her adorable Wheels on the Bus adapted book!
I create my adapted books with a matching component on each and every page to keep little hands busy and focused on what is in front of them, while also checking for understanding along the way.
At the end of each of my adapted books is 2-4 comprehension questions and a field of 2 to answer from. The questions are BASIC WH questions that you can use to collect data on a comprehension goal.
I am building my own adapted book library through creating one for just about every theme I am teaching to (and I am ALWAYS open to new suggestions that you could use in your classroom!) I have also created some BUNDLES to save you some money when purchasing adapted books ( believe me once you have one you NEED them all!)
Have I not convinced you that you need a little adapted book in your life! Watch my little friend using the book SO SUCCESSFULLY, and did I mention independently too 🙂 HERE !
Remember to check out my adapted book collection & leave a comment with book suggestions you don’t see in my store!
