November will be here before we know it, and I know you all LOVE seasonal picture books in the classroom. Thanksgiving books usually focus on pilgrims, Native Americans, and turkeys, but this year I wanted to focus on the meaning behind it all…. thankfulness. Some of the history of Thanksgiving can be very spotty in currently available resources, and the real story should be told. (Check out this resource to learn more about teaching the real story of Thanksgiving)

I love the Book Thankful by Eileen Spinelli for one simple reason, it’s SIMPLE! (you know thats my jam!) The book discusses ways that every person can be thankful in every thing they do. The text is short and to the point and perfect for those who have trouble focusing for longer stories!

The book Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora is a great book to discuss what happens when we give so much that we have nothing left. This is a hard topic to explain, and this book does so perfectly.

I love this series and I’m sure you do too! Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman focuses on building a dinner together as a team, and showing everyone how much you can have if you work together! I love the theme of this book and that it focuses on a feast where everyone works together.

The Thank You Book by Mary Lyn Ray is a fantastic book for Thanksgiving that says relevant all year long. The book focuses on how you can connect with others and feel joy just by saying thank you. It also talks about how to SHOW you are thankful without even saying it.
