Life Skills Centers for the Whole Year

Life Skills Centers for the whole year

Being a life skills teacher is HARD. WORK. You have all the weight of a regular special ed teacher with the paperwork, testing, accommodations, inclusion, AND the weight of the world on you to PREP these kids for LIFE.

As a grades 1-4 Autism and life skills teacher, I spend SO much time thinking about the future of my kiddos. I want to prepare them for success and make sure they leave my classroom with some SOLID skills for their future, even at their young age.

This NEW year, I decided to implement a life skills center that will take place during a block of time each afternoon in my classroom. We will work on ONE skill a month, to make sure they are able to master it before moving on to the next. I’ll be encouraging parents to generalize the skills to home to help make their transition through life more smoothly. (having a great relationship with parents really helps with student success and generalization, I build my relationships from the start with lots of communication, especially with my home/school notes)

WHY ONE SKILL?

We are focusing on only one skill a month because my students need to practice for longer periods of time in order to master a skill.

Here’s a sneak peak into my January Life Skills center:

January Life Skills

Each skill comes with everything you need to start implementing the center right now in your classroom (besides the socks and utensils LOL) center signs, visuals, task analysis, schedule cards, data sheets, letters home to families, real photos, (uploaded each month) and certificates of completion.

Life Skills

Task analysis schedule cards make it easy for students to remember the steps involved for each skill. I velcro mine to a paint mixer so they are easy to carry and pull off when and where you need them!

Life Skills

Data sheets are also included so that you can track your students progress throughout the month!

Life Skills

You can grab this product in my TPT store by clicking the photos above to start implementing your own life skills center in your classroom! It includes 12 skills for 12 months at around 2 dollars a skill!

Update- you guys asked for it so here it is! Life skills centers extension pack!

Remember how important life skills are to our kiddos, they will carry them through life and beyond!

How do you store and organize all of it?? I’m transitioning to a new classroom that is incorporating functional academics and living skills and I have your centers already! What does your setup look like?

    Hello!

I am interested in purchasing your life skills bundle, but I was wondering if they were editable? I noticed they have specific months on the print outs but I would like to use them in a different order if need be. Tha ks for your help! What a great resource:)

What prompts do you use? I’ve been looking at a variety of examples and I’m trying to determine which one makes the most sense. Thanks!
